[former] Welsh Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, Hills Lane, ShrewsburyAfter meeting in temporary accommodation since 1797 a small group of Welsh-speaking Welsh Calvinistic Methodists rented the former Wesleyan Methodist chapel in Hills Lane. In 1826 the chapel was demolished and a new one built. This in turn was rebuilt in 1870 at a cost of £882. This is the chapel in the photograph. In 1931 the chapel was bought by the local council and demolished as part of a slum clearance scheme. The congregation thereupon joined with St. David's Presbyterian Church of Wales in Belmont, whose services were in English. |
