Gazetteers of Nonconformist Chapels

There are two gazetteers of Nonconformist Chapels, one for Shropshire and one for Shrewsbury.

Henry Pidgeon's Salopian Annals

Henry Pidgeon of Shrewsbury (d. 1871), was professionally a chemist on the High Street. He served as borough treasurer for 31 years, resigning a few months before his death. He was also the author of a popular guidebook to Shrewsbury and a number of other historical writings about the town and its surroundings.

As a young man, Pidgeon maintained a sort of civic diary, his Salopian Annals. There were at least seven volumes of these, covering the years 1823-1831, of which five are known to survive. They describe the life of Shrewsbury in these years in great detail.

A full transcription of the five surviving volumes is available here [1.2MB].
