[former] Poynton Green Wesleyan Methodist Chapel Land to build a chapel in Poynton Green was acquired in 1854, but it was not until 1857 that a chapel was built. The chapel opened on the 20th March 1857. By 1885 this chapel was thought to be "a small and inconvenient building" and "dilapidated". This first chapel was replaced by a new brick-built chapel (in this picture) erected in 1885 by the builder Mr J. Blakemore of Oakengates and designed by Mr Bullock of Wellington, at a total cost of about £440, which accommodated about 100 worshippers. The foundation stones of this new chapel were laid on Friday 19th June 1885 and the chapel opened on Friday 23rd October following. The chapel was closed in 1989 and sold by 1991. It was de-registered as a place of worship on 7th June 1990. The building was still in good condition when photographed, but its use was uncertain. Grid ref: SJ 565187.
