[former] Fletcher Memorial Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Coalbrookdale This rather grand chapel was built in 1885-6. It had been decided two years earlier that the existing chapel (licensed at the county quarter sessions in October 1811) was inadequate and dilapidated. The old chapel closed on the 12th July 1885 when the last srvices were held, and was then demolished, in order that the new chapel could be built on the same site. The foundation stones of the new chapel were laid on Friday 14th August 1885. The lower portion of the building was used as a school and the upper portion was the chapel. The chapel seated 320 worshippers and cost about £290 to build. The architect was Mr Loxton of Walsall and the builder was Mr H. Knight of Walsall.The opening services of the chapel were held on Friday evening the 12th February 1886. It was named the "Fletcher Memorial Wesleyan Chapel". The chapel was registered for the solemnization of marriages on 4th March 1889. The chapel has now closed,and was de-registered as a place of worship on 26th June 1970.
