[former] Ifton Heath Primitive Methodist Chapel, called "Mount Zion", St. Martin's This is a rough sketch of the new chapel built in 1877. For some years prior to the erection of the chapel, the old chapel had been very small & inconvenient for the increasing congregation. So land was purchased and the foundation stones of the new chapel were laid on Good Friday 30th March 1877. The chapel opened on the 15th July following. It seated about 200 worshippers and cost over £400, towards which they had raised £181. The builder of the chapel was Mr James Griffiths of Dudleston. The debt on the chapel still amounted to £232 in 1881. The chapel was registered for the solemnization of marriages on 21st August 1902. The chapel closed in 1968 when the congregation merged with the congregation at the other Methodist Chapel in Ifton Heath, further along Ellesmere Road, to the west. The building was de-registered as a place of religious worship on the 23rd March 1970. The chapel has now been demolished and a modern house has been built on the site. Grid ref: SJ 328368
