SHROPSHIRE'S NONCONFORMIST CHAPELS

The original Primitive Methodist chapel was built in 1842, just a year after the Primitive Methodists had arrived in the parish. In the 1851 Religious Census it was reported that there were 88 sittings, and they had 30 worshippers at their afternoon service and 22 at their evening one, plus 25 Sunday scholars in the morning. This chapel was replaced by a new chapel (shown on old O.S. maps) built on a site given by Mr R. T. Heatley. The foundation stones were laid on Friday 20th September 1895. They had been fund-raising for the new chapel since 1894. The chapel has now closed.
