[former] Primitive Methodist Chapel, Wellington Road, Donnington, TelfordThis chapel was built in 1866 on land given by the Duke of Sutherland. It opened on Sunday 25th February 1866 in a ceremony crowded to excess, £25 was raised on the occasion. In 1884 it was found necessary to enlarge the chapel by building a schoolroom and classroom which could be used in connection with the main building. The builder was Mr William Martin of Donnington, who contracted to do the work for £270. The foundation stones were laid on MOnday the 27th October 1884. The chapel seated about 200 worshippers. By 1962 there were only 30 adult worshippers. The chapel closed in 1967 and the building sold to the Serbian Orthodox church. Grid ref: SJ 709141 |
